Here is a whimsical, Alice in Wonderland-esque inspiration board featuring puffy sleeves, large ruffles, bright pastels, and overflowing baby doll dresses.
Although I am not fond of the skinny-model obsession, there are few other ways to get such depth and breadth of fashion inspiration than what high fashion (and with it the skinny models) provides. And thus, I present to you images from fashion shows, Teen Vogue photo shoots, Lily Allen (she is at least closer to a life-sized person), and an images from Annie Leibovitz, who created some very whimsical Alice & Wonderland themed photographs for Vogue.
I personally can’t get enough of these styles, although it can be hard to find whimsy at a low-price range. My best bets are always H&M which usually has Luella-like ruffled skirts, tutu skirts, and other fun-finds. Target also offers some whimsical looks in various Go International lines (Luella, in fact, was a featured designer at one time). You can re-create fairytale skirts by layering skirts (both for poofyness and for an added pop of color). Bright colored tights and sparkly flats or heels also help.
