Read about Yasmine’s life here!
Read about her inspirations here!
If you’ve been reading Stickers & Donuts, you know I’ve got a thing for A Print A Day, a blog by a fantastic west coast illustrator named Yasmine. Yasmine posts prints (patterns & drawings, mostly created on the computer) daily-ish (you know how it is with blogging).
I get so excited and jealous every time I see that she’s posted (look at how different the prints can be!), which is why I was even MORE excited when she kindly agreed to sit down with me (um, over email) for an interview!
Even though A Print A Day is not nearly the beginning of Yasmine’s artful life, let’s start there. Yasmine has been blogging since 2001, but mostly for friends and family. She started Print A Day much more recently (March! And already so many fans!) as a kind of online-sketchbook to use as mind-prep for other work.
To make her prints, she draws with pen directly on the computer & uses the classic Adobe package. Sometimes, she bases her prints on a weekly theme (my favorite = weapons with pretty things), and sometimes she just invents things out of thin air (slash California or Arizona air, depending on her current location).
Yasmine does lots of repeat prints (put one on my sweater please!), and said her Russian dolls, though they aren’t her favorite, have gotten lots of attention (check out these printable labels & papers, from the Weekend Downloads section, which feature the dolls — and can we talk about the FIFTY comments she received on that post?!).
The terrariums are among her favorite blogged-prints (Yes! I love these!). Like snowglobes, the terrariums showcase places much larger than could ever fit under glass. Having been so many places, in the US and out, I can see why Yasmine would find this theme so appealing. “I have a thing for miniature worlds,” she says. “I wish I could shrink San Francisco and Manila, put them in a glass jar, and take it with me wherever I go.”

I told Yasmine I wished I could take her prints with me wherever I go, and by wherever I go I mean off the internet and mostly on my walls. She promises that a store is coming. Eventually. For now, we will have to be satisfied with RSS feeds, frequent visits, & maybe a few ink cartridge sacrifices.
Coming up today and/or tomorrow: a short life history of Yasmine & inspiration images! All three posts, as soon as they arrive, will be located on the main page or you can access them here.
