Remember our post on the 10 Best Resources for Cassette Tape Nostalgia (I’m actually feeling nostalgic just thinking about it)? Well, I just found an ipod-cassette-tape hybrid to add to the list, and since it’s a musical-day on S&D (yes, GO WIN A POSTER!), I thought it would be the perfect time to post!

Proporta kindly sent me their Playback Pack ($29), an ipod classic case that looks like a cassette tape (an ipod trapped in cassette-tape’s body, if you will).

I must say, I’m smitten with the thing, which is not quite a surprise because I love the symbolic joining of old and new, but nonetheless, this cassette tape is also very functional (if symbolism doesn’t cut it for your casing-needs). If this case had a personality, it would be sort of hipster-cool but also secretly servile (ironic!).

Here are my favorite features: (that and more pics after the jump!)

  1. It comes with a Splitter Cable so you can share your music with a friend. (HOW HELPFUL WOULD THIS HAVE BEEN ON ABOUT 20,000 CAR TRIPS GROWING UP?)
  2. You can flip the case around and use it as an ipod stand (like below, shown on a different style case). There is even a special hole so you can still charge your ipod while it’s in the case. The upright position is THE BEST for TV viewing, esp if you want to work on a boring project at your desk and watch TV at the same time.
  3. Headphones are turquoise. I don’t know if they all are, but MINE were.
  4. It comes with a pamphlet cleverly shaped like the cassette tape booklet. And, they sent along tea. I’m not sure why. But, I’m also not sure why not.
  5. My favorite part: there’s a little rubber cassette tape “pad” that fits in the case with your ipod. That way, it really looks like a cassette tape.

Proporta makes many other thoughtful ipod & musical device cases, but the hybrid of contemporary technology and the 80s music classic makes the cassette-tape-case extra-special in my nostalgic eyes.
