Awhile ago Design*Sponge wrote a DIY post on recycled cakestands. (If you’d like to know what I’m taking about in the rest of this post, you should probably go visit the DIY post.) I was obsessed, and trekked over to a Long Island thrift shop for plates. (cakestand-making-warnings after the jump)
First, a warning: plates and saucers are SO CUTE and mismatched ones are often $1 or $2 so you will probably end up buying a LOT of plates you don’t need. Second, it’s harder than you might think to find not-bulky vases or candle sticks to use for stems (in fact, I ended up using wine glasses on one). Third, it’s also hard to find plates of three different sizes that have similar color schemes (if you want to do a three tiered stand). And, lastly, if you get the inside of a glass or vase dirty with your sticky-glue hands, then it will be dirty forever because you are gluing it to a plate. Fourth, don’t get glue that is going to dry yellow-ish, because GLASSES ARE SEE-THROUGH.
And that is a quick summary in my mis-adventures of cake-stand-making.
