This past week, I have been studying a good amount. BUT, I don’t want to mislead you. I am not a disciplined study bunny. My current studying pattern is to compensate for not studying more earlier (being a feces-face).
Despite my devotion to learning new words (lilliputian is my FAVORITE so far), I can’t resist flipping through fashion week pictures. I’m not obsessed with any particular brand, however, there are certain designers that I tend to like more than others (Fall 2009 gold stars: Badgley Mischka, Richard Chai, Nanette Lepore, and BELOW!). My dear friend, Angelica, and I love discussing new designs and interesting silhouettes. So, I have to be informed to facilitate healthy discussion! Okay, poor reasoning. I know, I fail at life.
1. Although some people hated the Marc by Marc Jacobs fall collection, I really enjoyed it. After reading about him in the New Yorker, Angelica and I concluded that we wanted to be his friend. I suspect that we mutually respect Marc Jacobs, because we wear a lot of layers (MOTIVES: 75% “I-GET-COLD-EASILY”, 25% “JUST-BECAUSE”). He seems to like layers, thus we like Marc Jacobs. The picture above is my favorite from the fall line, and is also the inspiration for this post’s design!
2. Of the ones I’ve seen, I like Tracy Reese’s collection the best. I admit, I am biased because a childhood friend of mine is the Assistant Designer at Tracy Reese. BUT, I still believe that despite this wee fact, I would still declare this collection as my favorite. Superbly executed, this collection features a good mix of normal subdued fall colors, and sprinkles of stunning colors (see the turquoise dress below!).

The greatest aspect is the accessories! Threaded throughout the entire show= the most GLORIOUS FASCINATORS AND GLASSES!!!! Cool points to the max!!!@#@!!!!@#@!#!
3. Sometimes I have shitty days. Angelica and I refer to these days as “cupcake days.” Some days are…”two cupcake days.” Those are the worst. Chicago is an exceptional place for a food-lover, especially someone who has a weakness for cupcakes. Recently opened, Sugar Bliss is conveniently located near work. I’m not willing to declare it the best cupcake place in Chicago, but it is definitely in the top three. Sugar Bliss cupcakes are perfect for those who love icing (they even offer icing shots!). Based on what I’ve tried, I like their Chocolate Caramel cupcakes the most.
4. When my eyes first met this image of Obama Sushi (via Boing Boing and brother-in-law), I thought about the following…
5. I know this is a slightly outdated expression of love (by exactly a month!), but I am infatuated with Animal Collective’s latest album, Merriweather Post Pavilion. Every time I listen to it, I always feel inundated with reverence for Animal Collective. This album is a little more electronic-ambient, filled with bold beats and some danceable tunes. My favorite song is “My Girls,” but lyrically, I like “Summertime Clothes” the best. Thank you, Taylor, for sharing with me your Animal Collective albums.
6. FACT! I love Shark Week. When I saw this Shark Tea Infuser on Designboom, I wanted it immediately. I would even consider trading coffee for tea (maybe), if I could use this tea infuser. My co-worker, Patrick, brought up a good point- the shark only looks cool if you use red tea. GOOD THING = I LIKE ROOIBOS.

My my my. I love it when I find out about new record releases in totally random places. I hadn’t heard about the Animal Collective’s new album until now – many thanks! And there really is no better yearly television event than Shark Week.
I almost almost almost bought this really adorable MJ dress but I decided not to but now I regret it and I’m so miserable it’s pissing me off. THAT IS ALL
We’re also all obsessed with My Girls at cornell. I think it’s become the new El Scorcho in terms of drunken sing-alongs.
rainbowbrown- YOU REALLY SHOULD LISTEN TO IT. It might be my favorite, out of the 5 I own. I honestly hadn’t owned any Animal Collective until a month ago. Always a band that I knew I would like, but never got around to obtaining, Animal Collective arrived in my life thanks to a coworker. Also, live each week like it’s a shark week. Someone once told me that, and I giggled. I hope that made you giggle.
other angelica- come on now. no need to refer to yourself as the other. I HATE WHEN I REGRET THINGS LIKE THAT. Have you seen K. Ross’ magnificent timepiece? I saw it in San Diego. Other Angelica and I have both wanted one, so when I saw her’s, I was a little jealous. FACT! Do you realize that My Girls is nearly 6 minutes long? Do you actually sing the whole part? Or just the chorus? I am jealous, and want to have a My Girs sing a long. I’m glad it has replaced El Scorcho, because as much as I love Weezer, the red album is miserable (I could accept Make Believe..but not red album).
(1) I love the background you used on this CO!
(2) I LOVE Marc Jacobs! He is the kind of designer where I see some of his stuff and my heart hurts because I can’t have it. I like this season because it has bright colors, but they are darkened and subdued by lots of black so it’s sort of like this fun/unique/elegant thing going on. (Obviously, I should be fashion writer.)
One thing I don’t like about MJ is that he makes really, really horribly ugly advertisements. I think they often cross the line from ugly/pretty to actual-ugly (ex. http://tinyurl.com/dggobs). I mean, it’s what he’s going for, I think, but still.
1) I used the colors from the skirt above
2) !!! I ADORE THE ADS. They’re beautifully weird. ESPECIALLY, the one you linked! The MIA ads!!! Oh gosh!
I used to be like you Tricia — I used to love them because I like the photographic style & backgrounds, and how untraditional they were, and I like how in mags they use tons of white space, but that MIA one (I thought) just took it from ugly/pretty to ugly. Then it felt like he was trying too hard to be kind of just dirty and on-the-street, but his clothes are $100s of dollars so it just doesn’t fit.
tricia your posts are my fave.
I’m feeling the love. Thanks Tricia for all those shout-outs, although I feel kind of like a disgrace because I haven’t read much about Fashion Week. I’ve only solidified my love of MJ by quickly taking a glance at some photos in nymag. In my honor though, I have been doing other Tricia approved items, like visiting the new dessert place in NYC called Stogo, that features VEGAN ICE CREAM AND VEGAN CUPCAKES, AKA ANGELICA HEAVEN!
In other thoughts, I can’t decide if I like the MIA ads. When I saw them, I thought to myself, “Is MIA really that short?” Her legs look odly short, and it gives me the creepers.
Obama sushi looks too good to eat. And I cannot comprehend how someone was able to create such a wonder.
Note to Marc Jacobs (because I’m sure you are reading this): Will you have tea with Tricia and I? We love you and tea. Especially rooibos and darjeeling!
Yes. Red tea is the best.
bates- thanks!
other, other angelica- i think i’m going to bake world-domination-vegan cupcakes tomorrow. we’ll have to ask the others, who saw mia live. she seems pretty short, though. mmm Darjeeling.
patrick- coming from a tea expert, i guess your views are worth a tad.
FACT: AC IS OK BY ME. Have you ever tried Red Tea with pomegranate? Awesome.
