You might have seen Serendipity 3 a few weeks ago when Steven Colbert ordered the $1,000 gold-wrapped ice cream sundae. Little did I know I’d end up there a week later ordering only $8.50 worth of food (the minimum, per person). I also didn’t know that it would be cute as hell (a fashionable place for Manhattanites to visit) or have the largest, kitchiest menus I have ever seen.
If you want to visit, Serendipity 3 is at 225 East 60th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues). While you’re in the neighborhood, ensure your teeth rot by stopping by Dylan’s Candy Bar (which I should do a post about later) at 1011 Third Ave.
Finally, if you’re at a loss for what to order from their massive menu, Serendipity 3 is known for its frozen hot chocolate (though my friend and I split a $15 brownie sundae).

Oh wow, I wish I lived in America :(
Though living near London is ok… Oxford Street :)
Was that place featured on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives??
That frozen hot chocolate seems familiar :)
I was just talking about this place a couple hours ago, how ironic! I’ve never been, though I’ve tried to twice (once it was closed, and I think the other time the wait was too long?) but it’s one of those places I’d love to get to once. I have been to Dylan’s, though. I especially love the bags they put your purchases in, they’re so cute! I always try and get a couple of ‘em and then I use them as gift bags.
I remember there also used to be this adorable little fabric store next to the restaurant, but I think it closed down a couple years ago. There’s definitely a lot of memories on that block, haha.
Madison: I’ve always been jealous of Europe and all of its supersuper oldstuff! I think you have lots of cool things over there : )! (But NYC IS pretty cool, too.)
Desiree: I have never even heard of that! But I like dives, so maybe I should check it out. (Though Serendipity does not fit in any of those 3 categories.)
Theresa: Cosmic! You should get to Serendipity, though there are probably 100s of other cool restaurants you “should” go to too, esp in Manhattan. (I didn’t see any fabric store! Sad!)
I saw that Colbert episode. Serendipity 3 looks pretty cute. Although, the old people in your picture look unaffected by the cuteness.
I LOVE that place! Whenever I’m in NY I go there! Ever since the John Cusak movie (Serendipity), I’ve been smitten. :) And I love that Dylan’s Candy Bar is so close!
I went there for my friend’s birthday and saw a couple on their anniversary. I totally thought I was whispering when I told my friend how cute it was. Turns out I wasn’t. But it’s a wonderful restaurant and the frozen hot chocolate works best split (it’s large and expensive).
there’s a serendipity here in central ohio! it’s delicious (: it’s quite small, an old house actually that they turned into an icecream shop. it is amazing, i wonder if it’s a chain?
